Some Things I Love About You

Us, married just a few months, 1986
The newlyweds in 1986
Twenty-seven years ago today, my husband and I held hands in a room filled with friends and family, and promised to spend the rest of our lives devoted to each other. We were filled with love and great hopes for the future. We couldn't possibly have imagined all the adventures that lay ahead, the challenges we would face, the amazing highs and unexpected lows that we would experience on our journey. Through better and worse, richer and poorer, sickness and health, joy and sorrow, we have continued to choose each other. We are still growing, still discovering life together.

Here is a partial list (in no particular order) of reasons I love my husband.
  • He has kept this picture (taken a few months after our wedding) on his desk all these years.
  • He encouraged me to go back to school.
  • He takes care of me when I'm sick.
  • On my scary, landmark birthdays, he puts great effort into making the day special and happy.
  • He has blue-gray eyes.
  • He keeps my feet warm at night.
  • When we eat at a restaurant, he holds my hand across the table.
  • He takes great care of our cats.
  • Sometimes when we see a cute actress on TV, he says she is too skinny.
  • He makes me laugh.
  • He will never let me go hungry.
  • The brunette he married became a blonde without warning, and that's okay with him.
  • He is willing to admit his faults and make changes.
  • He works hard, and he's good at what he does.
  • He took me to Africa.
  • When he gets up from the couch, he asks if he can get anything for me.
  • He's a great kisser.
  • He has never given up on us.

  1. That is the most beautiful post I've read in a long time Rosemary :-)

I feel very much the same way with my fella (although without the Africa bit... I'll work on him on that!).

I hope you guys have a beautiful Christmas together.

    Big love
    Grace

  3. What a list! And congrats on 27 years. How refreshing to find a site like this where the couple actually seems to want to spend time together.
Please tell him I'd like to go to Africa, if he doesn't mind, when has some time.

  4. I love the one about saying a girl is to skinny. :)
Hubby calls me his big girl and the way he says it takes all the sting out. :) But he also will say a girl needs to get a little meat on her bones if he sees a skinny gal. It makes me smile.
Glad you linked up at Matrimonial Monday!

  5. Perfect! Love your post so much. My hubby turned 50 this year, so I made him a deck of 50 cards itemizing all the reasons why I love and respect him. Congratulations on your anniversary!

  6. Wow, happy belated 28th anniversary! Thank you so much for linking up and sharing what is so amazing about your hubby. Since this post is a year old, maybe you'll update it for your 28th anniversary (although we passed it a few weeks ago :)) and link up with us again next Thursday.

  7. Fawn - Thanks so much for stopping by and commenting. FYI, this post appeared just last month, on our 27th anniversary. I think the 2012 date makes it seem longer ago than it really was. :-)
