How Was Your Weekend?

We enjoyed a four-day holiday weekend. It was a quiet and restful time, the kind of extended break we rarely get.

On Thanksgiving Day, we went out for breakfast. Pumpkin pancakes! For lunch and dinner, we enjoyed a few small plates at home, including stuffed portobello mushrooms, patatas bravas, and Mac and cheese. The weather was cool and clear, so we went for a walk around the lake.

We ignored "Black Friday", and were careful not to even drive past the mall, where we figured people trying to get into the parking lot would cause the usual traffic jams. Instead, we took a pleasant neighborhood walk and relaxed at home.

On Saturday we supported small businesses by getting haircuts and having lunch at a local coffee shop. Our plans for another walk were thwarted by rainy weather. That evening we went to our local deli and ordered the traditional turkey dinner. There was so much food that we were able to bring half of it home.

It was still wet on Sunday, so instead of walking outside we ventured out to a big shopping mall, which was not crowded at all -- less so, in fact, than it would normally be on a weekend. We walked around twice on each level, and enjoyed a little window shopping. We had so much food left over from all our weekend meals that it was easy to just browse and eat at home.

I really appreciate those who didn't get a long weekend, the people whose work helped make our time off so enjoyable. I hope they, too, will get a chance to take a long break very soon. It is so good for the mind and body to let go of all the busyness. We came back refreshed, relaxed, and ready to face the week.

  1. Sounds like you guys had a great long weekend - definitely my style, as I'm not a traffic/crowd lover either. Nice to have a partner that enjoys similar activities. :)
